Frequently asked questions

Do you handle ITAR-controlled work?

No. ITAR compliance requires registration with the U.S. State Department's DDTC, and B&R does not hold that registration — so we don't accept export-controlled prints. That's a deliberate answer, not a dodge: you'd rather hear it now than three weeks into a program. Non-controlled defense-adjacent work is work we're equipped for and want, and proprietary prints stay in-shop under NDA.

What defense work is B&R actually a good fit for?

Non-export-controlled defense-adjacent hardware: ground-vehicle and equipment components, structural and mounting hardware, tooling and fixtures, and legacy sustainment parts reverse-engineered from a worn sample when the OEM has discontinued the SKU. We don't publish a list of programs or primes — we're a 30-year job shop, not a defense prime, and overstating that helps nobody. Tell us what the part is and we'll tell you plainly whether it's work we should be quoting.

Do you handle sustainment work for legacy defense platforms?

Yes — this is the kind of work a 30-year job shop is genuinely well suited to. Reverse-engineered replacements from a worn sample, feature-add on existing hardware, and one-off parts for platforms whose OEM has discontinued the SKU. Send the sample and whatever documentation survives; we'll measure it, verify the alloy, and tell you what's realistic before anyone commits.

What tolerances and inspection capabilities do you offer?

±0.0005" routine on critical dimensions. CMM verification on first article and periodic in-process. Certified gauges, calibrated instruments, granite plates. Send your documentation requirement with the RFQ and we'll tell you plainly what we can produce in-house and what we can't.

Do you take on classified work?

No — we are not a classified facility and we are not ITAR-registered. Our defense work is unclassified and not export-controlled. Where a customer treats a print as proprietary or program-restricted, we handle it under NDA with document control and it stays in-shop. Discuss handling requirements at quote.

What's your defense-work lead time?

Standard defense CNC work: 2–5 weeks depending on complexity, alloy, and documentation depth. Rush and emergency sustainment: as fast as 3–5 days when material is on the shelf.
