Frequently asked questions

What's tricky about Monel machining?

Continuous gummy chip formation — chip-breaker inserts are essential. Chips wrap around the workpiece and damage the finished surface if not managed. Sharp coated carbide with chip-breaker geometry is standard.

Do you machine both K-500 and 400?

K-500 (age-hardenable, higher strength) is what we run most. Monel 400 (solid-solution) available on request; similar machining practice.
